But we made it to fall

"Summer of the Dead” (oil on Masonite), by Robert S. Neuman (1926-2015, in the show “Robert S. Neuman: Expressive Roots,’’ at the Elizabeth Moss Gallery, Falmouth, Maine, through Oct. 17.

The gallery says:

“Expressive Roots’’ presents an artist whose curiosity and imagination fused painterly impulse with rigorous draftsmanship. On Maine's own Mount Desert Island, he became a local legend by bartering paintings for a summer home where he grew into a fixture of the island's buzzing art scene. As he reached towards new ways to see the world, unabashed bold color and human vitality became cornerstones of his artistic practice. Neuman struck his own path, never distracted from pursuing his highly personal vision. His life's work represents an unwavering contribution to the continuation of abstraction in American art with curiosity and imagination that continues to inspire new generations of viewers and makers.’’
