‘The lines we draw’

The gallery says the show is a “dynamic yet subtle body of mixed-media work … rooted in her lifelong fascination with the line. Kaitz traces this interest to the simple chalk line of a childhood game of hopscotch—a line scratched in the dirt that became, over time, a recurring language of connection, movement, boundaries, and passage. Working across canvas, burlap, linen, clay, and other materials, her lines (and often words) function as trails, threads, footprints, and conduits between past and present and across geographic spaces. Compositions move between containment and release: shapes and borders establish order, while blurred lines, marks that escape their boundaries, and unexpected shifts introduce instability and possibility. Fabric, color, and form become a means of imagining an unbounded harmony while acknowledging the necessity—and arbitrariness—of the lines we draw.’’
