Superb stone, but don’t breathe the dust

“Sheldon’s and Slason’s Marble Quarry” (West Rutland, Vt. (oil on canvas, 1851), by James Pope, at the Middlebury (Vt.) College Museum of Art. Marble and granite quarrying became a major industry in the Green Mountain State in the 19th Century. It’s much diminished now.
